Heath Ledger’s Final film was screened at the recent Cannes Film Festival. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was in the final phases of filming when the Oscar winning actor passed away in January of 2008. Friends of the beloved actor stepped in to help the film’s creator Terry Gilliam complete it. Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law filmed three incarnations of Heath Ledger’s character. The film was not screened as a competitive piece at Cannes, but it was extremely well-recieved by critics.

Finally, someone is going to make feature movie depicting the life of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.. DreamWorks Studios announced this week that they have purchased the rights to MLK’s story from his estate. No stars have been cast in or rumored to be cats in the film yet, but surely they will be lining up for this role. So far, the only thing that is set is Steven Speilberg will co-produce the film. He has not made any announcements about other producers, directors or actors.

Sex and City heads back to the big screen in Spring 2010 and all four of our favorite gals have signed on for the sequel. That’s right, Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha are back for more fashion, glamor, love trials and best friendship fun. Fans of the series will be happy to learn that writer/director Michael Patrick King has also signed on for the return. Yet to be nailed down as usual, the elusive Mr. Big. Chris Noth is still in negations to star in the feature film.

With two Oscars for dramatic roles under his belt, actor Sean Penn has officially signed on to play Larry in the Farrelly brothers Three Stooges movie.  Comedy is not new to the Oscar winning actor as he played the stoner/surfer Spicoli in the 80’s classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Penn will likely star opposite comedy giant Jim Carrey, who is being pursued to play Curly and Benicio Del Toro who is being pursued to play Moe.

Anne Hathaway has long been compared to some of the most classic Hollywood starlets, and now she is slated to play the legendary starlet Judy Garland. Hathaway has just been cast to portray Garland in the up coming biopic about Garland’s life and career. Filming on the tentatively titled “Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland” has not started. Hathaway’s star has been rising in recent years with roles in Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada and an Oscar nod for Rachel’s Getting Married.

Fans of Salma Hayek will be happy to know that the actress has only been warming up her comedy chops on NBC’s hit series 30 Rock. Hayek just signed on to star with comedy giant Adam Sandler in his next big screen flick. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the circus, the clown that instilled a clown phobia in millions is back! That’s right, Stephan King’s IT is rumored to be making a comeback. Warner Brothers would like to film a big screen remake of this nostalgic horror classic.

Lead by legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood, Gran Torino definitely is one of the 2009 classics.  Eastwood plays a bitter Korean War vet named Walt Kowalski who lives in a Hmong community in Michigan.  This film encompasses how his neighborhood relationships reform over time, especially after the male teenage neighbor tries to steal his prize and possession: a 1972 Gran Torino.
Definitely recommended.  Gran Torino has it all: strong relationships, racial slurs, intense action, powerful rivalries and more.  The only one slight criticism we have: It starts out a little slow, but …
